The Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Specialist is responsible for organizing and coordinating Performance Improvement and Patient Safety activities at a departmental level within Parkland.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a health related field.
  • Five years of experience working with performance improvement issues.
  • Knowledge of data management and process improvement.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and their interpretation as related to areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to operate a computer to input and extract information using word processing, spread sheet and data base software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to employ effective problem solving and demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate patient-centered/patient-valued behaviors.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Oncology Experience a plus
  • Laboratory Services Only: Must be certified by one of the following: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), Medical Technologist (MT) - Department of Health Services (HHS) formerly (HEW), Medical Technologist (MT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - national certification agency
  • Nurses Only: Must have current RN license or valid temporary license with the Texas Board of Nursing; or, valid Compact RN license.
  • Nurses Only: Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross Rescuer Military Training Network.
  • Nurses Only: Provides care to assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nursing Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.
