About The Position

The Perfect Power Engineer is responsible for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives. This position is posted at multiple grade levels and offers a range of opportunities for advancement. The minimum qualifications outlined below apply to the Engineer with increased education, skill, experience and certification requirements for higher level Engineer Sr. The System Analysis group is a foundational part of the Distribution organization because we are involved with almost every aspect of providing electrical service to the customer. Each Electrical Engineer is responsible for performing engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient manner for the accomplishment of assigned objectives. The Perfect Power team provides centralized leadership and coordination across all districts by defining Perfect Power team roles, standardizing Perfect Power work practices and maintaining Standard of Work Documents. They deliver executive-level visibility to Perfect Power metrics and performance including customer minutes of interruption (CMI), with a heavy focus on data analytics and continuous improvement driving enhancements to Grid Scope and other reporting tools for Community of Practice Groups. Utilize programming tools such as Python to analyze large data sets and identify actionable insights.

Requirements

  • Engineer Minimum Requirements: Has typically acquired two (2) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET
  • Electrical Engineering degree preferred OR Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
  • Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy this degree requirement, if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • Acceptable alternative is: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
  • VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a university with a Non ABET accredited program
  • Engineer Sr. Minimum Requirements: Has typically acquired four (4) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET
  • Electrical Engineering degree preferred.
  • OR Two (2) years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.
  • ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
  • Individuals with a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology can satisfy this degree requirement, if they obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Acceptable alternative is: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
  • Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
  • VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a university with a Non ABET accredited program

Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit loading and flow analysis utilizing CYME software
  • Design circuit protection schemes using CYME TCC software
  • Review daily, weekly and monthly reliability reports to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Identify and develop reliability improvement plans for the assigned area
  • Assist the Operations group with system issues whenever needed – 24/7 support
  • Assist with Outage Restorations either in the office or in the field – travel may be required
  • Provide guidance on large customer load additions and service plans
  • Develop and score improvement projects for the annual work plan using the PVR tool
  • Respond to customer and quality of service inquiries – possible field work
  • Design and coordinate the installation of Distribution Automation schemes (DACR)
  • Provide engineering expertise to the Distribution Design group
  • Support the Distribution Dispatch Center with load transfers and switching orders
  • Provide / Install settings for electronic equipment including reclosers, regulators and capacitors
  • Collaborate / communicate with various departments and groups across the company
  • Provide Project Management support during phases of project development and construction
  • Utilize programming tools such as Python to analyze large data sets and identify actionable insights
  • Keeps abreast of new products, developments, technologies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Understands and analyzes interrelationships between systems and component equipment.
  • Interprets codes and regulations and develops standards relevant to the area of assignment.
  • Provides guidance and exercises judgment and discretion in providing training, guidance and/or direction to other Engineers.
  • Leads, facilitates, and coordinates work activities of others within the work group, team, department, corporate entity, or those external to the company as required to perform all routine engineering work.
  • Ensures all work activities are performed in accordance with the policies, practices, standards, and rules of the company and comply with the regulations and procedures required by external agencies.
  • Promotes engineering professionalism and standards.
  • Coordinates and conducts training sessions.
  • Identifies, clarifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to routine and/or complex problems that sometimes involve analysis of inadequate or conflicting data.
