About The Position

The Per Diem Sexual Assault Advocate Trainee plays a critical role in providing compassionate support and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault across various settings. This position is designed to train and prepare individuals to respond effectively to the immediate and ongoing needs of survivors, ensuring they receive respectful, trauma-informed care. The advocate trainee will work closely with experienced advocates and multidisciplinary teams to learn crisis intervention, resource navigation, and emotional support techniques. The ultimate goal of this role is to empower survivors by offering guidance, information, and accompaniment through medical, legal, and social service processes. This position requires a strong commitment to confidentiality, empathy, and cultural sensitivity to foster a safe and supportive environment for all survivors served.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Bachelors Degree required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity to survivors’ needs.
  • Strong communication and active listening skills.
  • Availability to work on a per diem basis, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience or volunteer work in victim advocacy, crisis intervention, or related fields.
  • Completion of training in trauma-informed care or sexual assault advocacy.
  • Familiarity with community resources and social service systems.
  • Bilingual abilities, especially in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the service area.
  • Basic knowledge of legal and medical procedures related to sexual assault cases.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to crisis calls and provide immediate emotional support to survivors of sexual assault.
  • Accompany survivors to medical exams, law enforcement interviews, and court proceedings as needed.
  • Assist in connecting survivors with community resources such as counseling, housing, and legal aid.
  • Participate in training sessions to develop skills in trauma-informed care, advocacy, and crisis intervention.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all contacts and services provided.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including healthcare providers, law enforcement, and social service agencies.
  • Promote awareness and education about sexual assault prevention and survivor rights within the community.
