About The Position

This position is responsible for scheduling surgical procedures using a computerized scheduling system. The role coordinates scheduling between members, surgeons, external providers, hospital staff, and outside vendors according to established surgery scheduling protocols and policies.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school.
  • One (1) year surgery scheduling experience or experience working in a physician office and performing scheduling activities.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of terminology used in area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practice and procedures.
  • Knowledge of patient rights.
  • Knowledge of age specific patient needs.
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
  • Skill in dealing with physicians, patients and other employees.
  • Skill in customer service.
  • Skill in computerized scheduling system.
  • Skill in verifying claims, forms and applications according to laws and guidelines in area of assignment.
  • Skill in preparing technical and statistical reports.
  • Skill in performing technical, specialized, complex and difficult office support work.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of one (1) year Surgical block scheduling experience in hospital setting.
  • Service line specific experience such as orthopedic, robotic, neurological, general surgery, and/or ob/gyn surgical scheduling.
  • Knowledge with CPT and ICD-10 coding.
  • Knowledge with prior authorization verification processes.
  • Anesthesia scheduling exposure.
  • Epic and Microsoft office (Word, Excel) experience recommended.
