About The Position

This is a per diem Registered Nurse position in the Neurosciences ICU at University Hospital in Madison, WI. The role involves caring for complex and critically ill adult patients within the neuro specialty in a 12-bed unit offering both ICU and IMC level of care. The position requires a commitment of at least twenty-four (24) hours per six (6) week scheduling period, with one shift being an evening, night, weekend, or holiday as operations require. The unit specializes in neurology, neurosurgery, and stroke conditions, utilizing strong critical thinking skills for interventions such as vasoactive drips, hemodynamic monitoring, and frequent neuro assessments. The team is dynamic and supportive, integral to nationally recognized neuroscience programs.

Requirements

• Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
• Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required
• Current CPR/BLS Certification Upon Hire Required
• ACLS within 6 months Required

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
• Relevant RN Experience Preferred
• Relevant certification Preferred

Responsibilities

• Care for the adult patient population in a critical care setting with ICU as well as IMC level of care.
• Gain experience with a variety of neurology, neurosurgical and stroke conditions that can include ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, hydrocephalus, cerebral aneurysm, and other neurovascular diseases.
• Utilize strong critical thinking skills and provide interventions that may include vasoactive drips, hemodynamic monitoring, feeding tubes, drains, frequent neuro assessments, and more.
