About The Position

This position provides patient care by performing distributional, clinical, educational, informational, and supervisory functions for the pharmaceutical care of patients in acute and/or ambulatory services. The Intern performs all duties and tasks under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The development of skills and competencies is progressive over the total number of hours required for licensure as a pharmacist.

Requirements

• Valid full time enrollment in a College of Pharmacy
• Satisfaction of the minimum requirements of education and training required by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy to acquire and maintain a Pharmacy Intern or Pharmacy Technician certificate.
• Valid State of Nevada Certification as a Pharmacy Intern or Pharmacy Technician.
• Valid State of Nevada Certification as a Pharmacy Intern at hire
• First and second year Pharmacist students preferred
• Knowledge of Federal, state and county laws and regulations related to the compounding, dispensing, storage and use of medications
• Knowledge of pharmacy standards of practice
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices
• Knowledge of controlled substance record keeping and reporting
• Knowledge of drug indications, dosage regimen, drug-drug, drug-disease, and drug-nutrient interactions
• Knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
• Knowledge of compounding techniques
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques
• Knowledge of physical properties of drugs
• Knowledge of mainframe and personal computers
• Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and procedures
• Knowledge of patient rights
• Knowledge of infection control policies and practices
• Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials
• Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures
• Knowledge of age specific patient care practices
• Skill in reading and interpreting physicians' orders
• Skill in reading patient's clinical diagnosis and recommending most appropriate medication regimen
• Skill in re-prioritizing work in response to changing situation
• Skill in handling, disposing and managing hazardous materials
• Skill in effectively supervising assigned staff
• Skill in communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties

• Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment
• Stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time

• Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• The work requires handling medications classified as hazardous materials.
