About The Position

The Imaging Technologist provides the department with basic diagnostic x-ray skills in operating and performing the various tasks in preparing, executing, and completing procedures. This would include proper order review, basic radiologic skills, and patient care experience. If assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care, responsibilities also include escorting patients to exam rooms, taking and recording vital signs, ensuring paperwork completion, assisting with patient flow, entering information into the medical record, obtaining pre-certification for procedures, assuring correct coding, accurately entering vital signs into the patient management computer system, using department computer systems, answering the telephone, making appointments, providing information and referrals, transporting patients, and participating in patient assessment. The role also involves assisting with training radiology technology students, acting as a role model, participating in performance improvement and quality assurance, assisting other team members, and demonstrating knowledge of growth and development for diverse patient populations.

Requirements

CA Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license
BLS
Fluoroscopy permit required within 6 months of hire/transfer (if assigned to Radiology Diagnostic Department)

Responsibilities

Operates X-ray equipment according to procedure.
Provides radiation protection for patient according to prescribed safety standards.
Adjusts technical factors to accommodate the age, body habitus, disease process and condition of each patient.
Verifies correct order on chart or provided physician order, referring questions to supervisor or physician before performing procedure.
Ensures all documentation and data entry is complete and accurate, according to policy.
Notifies physician if any modifications to exam ordered are required.
Assists physician in administering contrast media, mixing contrast solutions according to procedures and assembling administration materials, if required.
Uses department computers according to procedures.
Knows Radiology Information System (RIS), properly charges exams, adds supplies if necessary.
Modifies orders and cancels exams appropriately, including documenting reason in RIS.
Keeps designated work area clean and orderly.
Cleans equipment and rooms; stocks supplies and maintains area in a ready condition.
Assists in administering first aid as necessary.
Develops images using computed Radiography system (CR) or Digital Radiography (DR) with correct information and positioning markers on image.
Prints CR or digital images using laser printer or CD burner as necessary.
Ensures no complaints from physicians concerning image quality.
Transfers patient to and from X-ray room; positions patient correctly for X-ray being taken as assigned.
Thoroughly explains the procedure to the patient.
Properly performs portable radiography, checking chart and seeking nursing assistance when necessary.
Identifies patient and exam accuracy by verifying at least two patient identifiers and by checking for proper exam order.
Notifies nursing upon modification, rescheduling, or canceling of an exam as necessary.
Develops and maintains good working relationships with all members of hospital, medical staff, and community.
Portrays department positively to all.
Becomes familiar with and able to assist physicians in viewing images on the hospital PACs system.
Fully understands and complies with ensuring proper security of medications.
May have access to cabinets that house emergency medication kits, contrast reaction kits, commercially prepared kits, and to prepare and label medications that are provided to licensed personnel authorized to administer.
Responsible for maintaining PAR Levels and currency of dates on supplies and medications they stock.
Escorts patients to exam rooms (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
May take and record vital signs (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Makes sure all paperwork is completed (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Assists with patient flow (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Enters appropriate information into medical record, adhering to medical record guidelines (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
May be required to obtain pre-certification for procedures (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Assures correct coding for filling and forms are in proper place in record (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Accurately enters vital signs into patient management computer system (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Uses department computer systems to enter and obtain information/documentation (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Answers telephone, refers calls, makes appointments, and provides appropriate information and referrals, as needed (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Transports patients during the admission and discharge process using the appropriate mode as indicated based on the patient complaint or condition (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Participates in the initial and ongoing assessment of the patient (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Takes initial and serial vital signs as required (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Properly attaches cardiac monitor and records rhythm strip as directed (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Applies the SaO2 sensor as directed (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Reports pertinent findings or changes in patient condition to licensed personnel (if assigned to Urgent Care/Sequoia Prompt Care).
Assists in specific areas of training for radiology technology students.
Is a role model and provides a positive atmosphere for learning.
Actively participates in Performance Improvement and quality assurance.
Assists other members of the shift with patient assignments.
Takes initiative in helping others within own unit as well as outside units, when workload permits.
May be assigned specific duties as necessary in compiling or collecting data.
