About The Position

As a Building Security Guard at The Oncenter, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all team members and guests, with customer service being your number one focus. Your primary responsibility is to enforce security measures, deter potential incidents, and respond promptly to any security concerns that may arise during operations. This is a flexible, as-needed position with no set weekly schedule. Shifts are offered based on operational needs, and employees may pick up available shifts based on their availability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • New York State Security Guard License.
  • Proven experience in security roles, preferably in a large venue or event setting.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including holidays with the opportunity to sign up for open shifts.
  • Demonstrate reliability and a strong teamwork mindset and the ability to seamlessly execute programs.
  • Adaptability to remain flexible and responsive to evolving circumstances.
  • Proficiency in handling and resolving high-tension situations, effectively managing challenging guests.
  • Clear and effective verbal communication to interact with guests, staff, and emergency personnel.
  • Exhibit acute judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, or patrol extended periods during events and shifts.
  • Ability to maintain composure, react promptly, and make decisions swiftly in high-stress situations.
  • Agility and flexibility to swiftly walk, run, or move to respond promptly to emergency situations.
  • Sharp vision to monitor and observe activities and identify potential security threats.
  • Capacity to lift or move objects exceeding 50lbs, barricades, or equipment when necessary.

  • Previous hospitality industry, customer service, or retail experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize surveillance systems to monitor the premises and identify potential security threats.
  • Communicate, greet, and offer information or directions to guests in a courteous and helpful manner.
  • Conduct foot patrols throughout the facilities, observe ongoing activities, and proactively identify and prevent signs of intrusion.
  • Verify credentials and enforce access control measures to restrict entry to authorized personnel only.
  • Handle phone calls professionally, provide guidance, and promptly notify relevant individuals as needed.
  • Conduct thorough incident investigations and compile accurate incident reports.
  • Receive, document, track, and manage deliveries efficiently.
  • Oversee the facility's lost and found, contacting individuals upon identifying lost items.
  • Promptly respond to fire alarm systems, investigating and notifying the appropriate personnel and authorities.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure clients and guests experience the highest quality service during their events.
  • Participate in ongoing training programs to stay updated on security procedures, emergency response protocols, and industry best practices.
  • Adhere to the department's dress code and present yourself in a friendly and approachable manner.
  • Perform other assigned responsibilities and duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
