About The Position

The People Solutions and Human Resources Compliance Specialist will be responsible for supporting a consistent, values-based associate experience by leading thorough—objective investigations and providing employment compliance and policy guidance. This role partners closely with HR Business Partners and Operations leaders to enhance communication, mitigate risk, ensure fairness, and foster a positive work environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-4 years of HR Generalist or Employee Relations Experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration or equivalent field
  • In-depth understanding of general employment practices and regulatory laws, including FMLA, ADA, Title VII, FLSA.
  • Ability to apply employment practices, regulatory laws and Family Dollar policies to daily situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of management.
  • Ability to influence outcomes and advocate persuasively for fair, compliant decisions.
  • Professional presence with high discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive investigations into complex and sensitive associate relations matters, including allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, workplace violence, and other policy violations.
  • Interview complainants, witnesses, and subject associates; collect and analyze documentation and data from relevant internal systems.
  • Adjudicate cases by evaluating evidence and determining findings; propose appropriate corrective or disciplinary action in alignment with company policies and legal guidance.
  • Produce complete and accurate investigation documentation, including case summaries, evidence logs, determination rationales, and recommended next steps.
  • Manage assigned casework independently, ensuring investigations are brought to closure in a timely and compliant manner.
  • Objectively debrief HR Business Partners and leadership on investigation findings, partnering on resolution and post-investigation actions.
  • Provide support to the management team including assessing and making recommendations pertaining to workplace accommodations administrative related matters, including ADA, Worker’s Compensation and Religious accommodations.
  • Investigate Department of Labor Wage and Hour claims, analyze data from various internal systems, provide the Company’s formal response to claims, represent the Company at DOL Hearings, negotiate settlements as needed, and objectively debrief Business Partners and leadership on investigation findings.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and audit-ready documentation in the case management system (Navex, Workday, etc.), meeting internal standards and supporting legal holds as needed.
  • Analyze aggregate casework data to identify issue trends, reoccurring issues, or gaps in training, communication, or policy.
  • Assist in reviewing and enhancing HR policies, associate programs, and practices to reinforce a respectful, legally compliant, and inclusive workplace.
  • Monitor for retaliation post-resolution and escalate concerns or repeated violations appropriately.
  • Oversee and complete pre-employment adjudication processes following company, state, and federal employment laws and assist with MVR review process.
  • Investigate vendor related concerns and respond to Attorney General requests.
