About The Position

AvantStay is seeking a People Partner to join their team. This role is a hybrid of HRBP and People Operations, suitable for someone who enjoys both strategic and operational HR tasks. The People Partner will act as the connective tissue between people, process, and policy, owning significant parts of the employee lifecycle and compliance work. The company is growing rapidly in the short-term rental industry and offers the opportunity to redesign processes that are not working effectively. This role is ideal for someone who views the complexity of a growing company in a dynamic industry as a rewarding challenge.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of progressive experience spanning both HR business partnering and people operations / HR generalist work.
  • Demonstrated experience handling employee relations cases end-to-end, including performance management, investigations, and terminations.
  • Hands-on experience administering benefits programs (medical, 401(k), leave) and running open enrollment.
  • Solid grounding in multi-state US employment compliance, including workplace safety reporting (OSHA recordkeeping, incident reporting, postings).
  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth environment, comfortable with ambiguity, change, and building new processes.
  • Fluency with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, etc.) with real examples of their application.
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and follow-through.
  • Strong written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hospitality, travel, vacation rentals, hotels, or a similar industry, especially supporting field, operations, or property-based teams.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now.
  • Spanish language proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on performance issues, employee concerns, and team dynamics.
  • Coach managers through difficult conversations, including performance improvement plans, corrective action, and terminations.
  • Conduct investigations into employee complaints with care, neutrality, and rigorous documentation.
  • Own the day-to-day administration of benefits programs, including health, retirement savings, and ancillary perks.
  • Manage open enrollment, qualifying life events, and respond to employee questions regarding benefits.
  • Identify and propose solutions for gaps or pain points in the benefits experience.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and multi-state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, state leave laws, pay transparency, etc.).
  • Manage workplace safety reporting, including OSHA logs, incident response, and required postings.
  • Maintain employee files, I-9s, and other regulated records.
  • Partner with the head of people and Legal to stay ahead of regulatory changes affecting a distributed workforce.
  • Improve and own processes for the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, offboarding, internal transfers, and leaves of absence.
  • Build self-service resources and documentation for managers and employees.
  • Identify opportunities to make workflows faster, simpler, or smarter.
  • Utilize AI tools to automate documentation drafting, policy summarization, ticket triage, data analysis, and reporting.
