People Operations Manager

SydecarNew York, NY
$115,000 - $130,000

About The Position

Sydecar is seeking a People Operations Manager to manage the operational backbone of its People function as the company scales. This role requires an individual who views People Ops as a craft, focusing on building clean systems, attention to detail, and ensuring smooth operations. The position offers significant ownership and growth opportunities, with the chance to take existing programs, refine them, and redesign them with autonomy. The People Operations Manager will partner closely with the Head of People and will see their responsibilities grow as Sydecar scales.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years in People Operations or HR
  • Experience working in a startup or other fast-growing environment is a must
  • An operator's instinct: you like building and improving processes, and you can point to a workflow, onboarding flow, or system you helped make better and tell us what you changed
  • Hands-on experience with an HRIS or People tech stack
  • Good judgment on sensitive and confidential matters, with a sense of when to handle something directly versus loop in your manager
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to figure things out
  • Strong organization, follow-through, and written communication
  • A desire to grow into broader People Ops ownership over time

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a high-growth fintech, financial services, or other regulated environment
  • Familiarity with our tech stack, Rippling, Ashby or comparable ATS, Notion, and various AI tools
  • Exposure to People programs like leveling, comp cycles, or engagement surveys

Responsibilities

  • Own the full new-hire experience from offer acceptance through the first 90 days, and run a smooth, compliant offboarding process. Continuously improve both based on feedback and what breaks as we scale.
  • Own our HRIS and People tech stack (Rippling & Lattice) as the source of truth. Keep data clean, build and maintain workflows, and make our systems do more of the work.
  • Help run our performance review and check-in cycles: timelines, communications, manager enablement, and the operational mechanics that make a cycle land on time.
  • Administer benefits, leave, and accommodations.
  • Support day-to-day HR compliance, handbook maintenance, and staying current on employment law basics.
  • Be a first point of contact for employee questions across the lifecycle. Triage employee relations issues with good judgment, handling what you can and escalating what you should.
