Requirements

  • 6-10 years of HR/People Operations experience with end-to-end ownership at a startup.
  • Fluency in California employment compliance, including leave management and termination practices.
  • Experience in employee relations and investigations.
  • Experience overseeing benefits and payroll administration.
  • Experience with performance cycle ownership.
  • Knowledge of compensation and leveling.
  • Ability to quickly learn, implement, and administer new HR systems.
  • Comfort using AI and modern tooling to streamline workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of UK and Pakistan employment practices.
  • Healthcare or healthtech industry experience.
  • HRIS or compliance-automation implementation experience (any platform).
  • Familiarity with immigration processes (H-1B, green cards, TN visas).

Responsibilities

  • Own the entire people function, excluding recruiting, including compensation and benefits, employee lifecycle, culture, compliance, and people systems.
  • Manage compensation band administration, offer calibration, benefits design and vendor management, payroll/benefits administration oversight, and equity administration coordination.
  • Oversee onboarding, offboarding, terminations, performance management (review cycles, promotions, PIPs), and retention analysis.
  • Build relationships across a distributed, multi-country workforce, monitor employee sentiment, and act on feedback to improve the employee experience.
  • Own culture programming, values reinforcement, and the ombudsman channel.
  • Guide employees and managers through sensitive situations like leaves, life events, and exits, ensuring discretion and judgment.
  • Conduct investigations with documentation discipline, partnering with counsel when necessary.
  • Own and update the employee handbook and people policies, ensuring multi-state wage/hour and classification compliance, leave management, and occupational health requirements.
  • Coordinate immigration processes if sponsorship is needed and oversee automated compliance training.
  • Manage UK employment (contracts, statutory benefits, local compliance or EOR) and Pakistan employment/EOR.
  • Ensure multi-state compliance as the field workforce grows.
  • Partner with first-time managers on feedback, development, and retention.
  • Own the HRIS and people-tech stack, including system evaluation, implementation, and replacement.
  • Provide people data and reporting to leadership (headcount, attrition, org metrics).
  • Continuously streamline HR workflows using modern tooling and AI.
