About The Position

As Marqeta’s People Development Senior Manager, you will be the driving force behind how the company enables its managers, develops its leaders, and scales its learning ecosystem. This role is a rare hybrid, requiring both high-level strategic thinking and hands-on project management to design a multi-year vision and manage its implementation. Marqeta is seeking an architect of growth who views learning as a competitive advantage and the employee experience as a high-end product, moving beyond traditional L&D practices focused on completion rates. The company operates with a Flexible First approach, allowing this role to be performed remotely anywhere in the United States or from their Oakland office.

Requirements

  • Possess the business acumen to sit at the strategy table and the project management discipline to lead the execution.
  • Love to be "in the arena," facilitating high-impact sessions and teaching others.
  • Understand the "plumbing" of L&D and have the creative eye to build engaging, modern content.
  • Navigate complex stakeholder landscapes, build trust quickly, and "bring others along" on the journey.
  • 8+ years of experience in L&D, Talent Management, or Organizational Development.
  • Proven experience working within Workday and various LMS/LXP platforms.
  • A proven track record of turning a learning vision into a reality through expert project management.
  • Experience mentoring others to deliver high-quality outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI to scale design, development, or implementation of learning.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in Articulate (Storyline/Rise) or similar rapid-authoring tools.

Responsibilities

  • Translate broad strategies into actionable roadmaps, utilizing rigorous project and program management to ensure high-quality delivery.
  • Identify and pilot emerging marketplace trends and AI-driven innovations to ensure our learning remains world-class.
  • Provide strategic oversight of our professional development budget, ensuring it drives both individual growth and organizational capability.
  • Build and scale a "Manager Excellence" framework that equips our people leaders with the essential tools to lead high-performing, inclusive teams.
  • In partnership with the Talent Management lead, create intentional development paths and "stretch" experiences for key talent.
  • Scale our coaching programs, moving beyond informal pairings to a structured, high-impact community of practice.
  • Audit our current environment and bring expert recommendations to influence our future learning technology roadmap in partnership with our People Technology team.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate the design, development, and global implementation of learning content at scale.
  • Create "beautiful," high-fidelity, and interactive digital content—utilizing tools like Articulate—that delivers a premium user experience "in-the-flow" of work.
  • Work closely with our Talent Development Program Manager, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to elevate their professional growth.
  • Partner with the Talent Analytics team to build robust measurement frameworks and dashboards that track the real-world impact of learning.
  • Genuinely connect with our learners to understand their needs, ensuring L&D is integrated into the business rather than operating in a bubble.
