About The Position

The Department of Transportation, Juniata County Maintenance Organization, is seeking a PennDOT CDL Operator to support the maintenance of the county highway and bridge systems. This position involves working with powerful equipment while helping keep communities moving safely and smoothly. The work plays an important role in maintaining roads, bridges, and roadside areas so the public can travel with confidence. The team values hard work, learning, and dedication.

Requirements

  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Ability to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Nice To Haves

  • Employees will be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned machinery for roadway maintenance and seasonal snow removal.
  • Perform flagging duties and guide traffic safely through work zones when not operating equipment.
  • Use motorized and hand tools to clean culverts, cut brush, repair structures, and complete other maintenance tasks.
  • Complete field adjustments, minor repairs, and routine servicing to keep equipment operating safely.
  • Follow safety procedures, observe hazards, and report issues to protect yourself, coworkers, and the public.
