About The Position

The PennDOT CDL Operator with the Department of Transportation plays an active role in keeping roads safe and well maintained. This position will give you the chance to work with equipment that supports year-round maintenance needs. It is a great opportunity to build skills while helping your community. Join a team that keeps Clinton County moving. This position supports highway and bridge maintenance by operating equipment and performing hands-on tasks that keep roads safe for the public. The role involves equipment operation, manual labor, and safe work practices in a variety of field conditions.

Requirements

  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake (L) and Manual Transmission (E ) Restrictions removed.
  • Demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
  • Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • Obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • Obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
  • Obtain additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports.
  • Medical examination and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver’s License Training School
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Responsibilities

  • Operate trucks, loaders, and other assigned equipment
  • Maintain required CDL credentials and complete daily equipment checks
  • Perform flagging duties to support safe work zones
  • Use motorized and non motorized tools to complete maintenance tasks such as grass cutting, ditch digging, and debris removal
  • Make basic adjustments, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and maintain awareness of work area conditions
