About The Position

The City of Poulsbo operates a Recovery Resource Center (RRC) and a Recovery Cafe, serving individuals with substance use disorders seeking recovery services. The RRC/Cafe offers peer support, support groups, substance use disorder services, mental health counseling, basic medical care, and telehealth connections. The goal is to foster recovery in a safe, supportive, and healing environment, promoting long-term transformation through relationships and evidence-based practices. This is a part-time, 20-hour per week position until June 2027, with flexible hours that may include evenings and Saturdays.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with people struggling with substance use disorders and/or mental health issues.
  • Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder, with a minimum of one year of sustained recovery.
  • Proficient level of ability with computer software: Microsoft Office Products.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) or willingness to obtain CPS status within 6 months of employment.
  • Training in suicide prevention, situational awareness, de-escalation, trauma informed/responsive care, cultural competency, motivational interviewing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional support to individuals in recovery from or struggling with addiction, mental health, and/or behavioral health concerns.
  • Offer support and referral services to individuals visiting the Center.
  • Maintain weekly contact with assigned members as appropriate.
  • Submit data and other reporting in a timely fashion.
  • Develop relationships with community partners, including first responders and co-responders.
  • Collaborate with other peers and providers to support individuals at the Center.
  • Attend support groups at the Cafe, work with facilitators, and potentially lead groups.
  • Assist the Center Manager with upkeep and maintenance duties.
  • Attend ongoing training programs to enhance role effectiveness.
  • Attend regular supervisory meetings with the Peer Support Supervisor.
  • Transport members to appointments using a city vehicle.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform emergency response duties in the event of a local emergency or disaster.
  • Contribute to maintaining a workplace culture of respect, dignity, and professionalism.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
