About The Position

First Resources Corp. of Mt. Pleasant is searching for a dedicated and energetic Full-time Peer Support Specialist. The ideal candidate will have personal experience with mental health and/or co-occurring conditions, and be certified or willing to be certified to help others with similar conditions. Using their own experience and training, the candidate will assist participants in identifying life goals, accessing local resources, and managing their wellness. The role involves instilling hope, promoting wellness, reducing stigma, enhancing life skills, providing education, and supporting individuals in building meaningful lives in their communities. The Peer Support Specialist should be familiar with and promote the philosophy of the drop-in center, providing a welcoming and safe environment for social activities, mutual support, basic needs, and resources. They will offer encouragement and coaching for developing daily living skills and healthy habits, fostering a sense of community and healthy relationships. The position requires working and maintaining an established schedule with a supervisor, adhering to FRC policies and procedures, maintaining strict confidentiality, and staying in close communication with team members and the supervisor. Candidates need empathy for individuals served, experience with the basic functions of the job description, and a willingness to continue their education as a PSS.

Requirements

  • Personal experience with their own mental health and are in a place in their recovery that allows them to mentor and share their own stories comfortably and effectively.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record and show proof of auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified or willing to be certified as a Peer Support Specialist.
