About The Position

Livingston County Community Mental Health is a public mental health services provider located in Howell, Michigan. We are an agency joined by the shared vision to create a healthy and rewarding life in the community for everyone. Our team approach works together to serve individuals with a wide array of needs in order to create individualized pathways to wellness, resilience, recovery and self-determination. The Peer Support Specialist/Recovery Coach will share their own recovery experience and support consumers with substance use needs on their recovery journeys. Many consumers will also have co-occurring mental health needs. Peer Support Specialists work in an innovative afterhours Substance Abuse Engagement Center to provide education, promote recovery and access community resources. Peer Support Specialists advocate for and enhance acceptance of individuals with substance use disorders in the workplace, family and community. In a comfortable home-like setting, Peer Support Specialists help people to consider options for their personal recovery planning. Peer Support Specialists also lead groups and work side by side with people to obtain housing, employment, medical care, recovery supports, transportation, recreation, financial benefits and other available entitlements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Experience as a primary consumer in recovery from substance use or co-occurring disorder.
  • Valid MI driver's license.
  • Strong engagement skills.
  • Nonjudgmental approach.
  • Commitment to shared values and commitment to community care including clinical excellence, community inclusion, community benefit, innovation, integrated care and improvement.
  • Strong teaming skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Some knowledge or experience in treating adults with substance use needs and/or serious mental health needs is desirable.
  • Completed Michigan Department of Health and Human Services training and certification as Peer Recovery Coach or Peer Support Specialist OR obtained Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) certification (for Certified Peer Support II).
