The Peer Support Specialist has primary responsibility for using their lived experience and knowledge of the system to provide outreach and engagement, support, advocacy, and direct services to program clients of all age ranges. Peer Support Specialists are people who have lived experience in the mental health, judicial, and/or social service systems in some capacity. They serve as role models, companions, educators and advocates to our clients. The Peer Support Specialist will support clients in moving toward recovery, creating a meaningful role in their life, which is separate from their illness. The Capital Star Crisis Residential Program is a 24/7 voluntary residential setting specifically for Transitional Age Youth (TAY) at risk and needs a higher level of care, but lower than a psychiatric hospital. The facility is equipped to serve up to 15 Youth and provides mental health services that include individual therapy, group rehabilitation, medication management, and case management. It incorporates the tenets of recovery, peer support, and identifying community connections, and connects individuals to educational and vocational services and initiating the process of locating housing.
