About The Position

First Resources Corp. of Mt. Pleasant is searching for a dedicated and energetic Full-time Peer Support Specialist. The ideal candidate will have personal experience with mental health and/or co-occurring conditions, and be certified or willing to become certified to assist others with similar conditions. Using their own experience and training, the candidate will help participants identify life goals, access local resources, and manage their wellness. The role involves instilling hope, promoting wellness, reducing stigma, enhancing life skills, providing education, and supporting individuals in building meaningful lives within their communities. The Peer Support Specialist will promote the philosophy of the drop-in center, which includes providing a welcoming and safe environment for social activities, mutual support, and access to basic needs and resources. This role also involves providing encouragement and coaching for developing daily living skills and healthy habits, fostering a sense of community and healthy relationships, and working within an established schedule with a supervisor, adhering to FRC policies and procedures. Maintaining strict confidentiality and close communication with team members and the supervisor is essential.

Requirements

  • Personal experience with their own mental health and are in a place in their recovery that allows them to mentor and share their own stories comfortably and effectively
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record and show proof of auto insurance
  • Empathy for individuals served
  • Experience with all basic functions of this job description
  • A willingness to continue their education as a PSS

Responsibilities

  • Assisting others to identify goals they would like to achieve in their lives
  • Teaching participants how to access local resources and manage their wellness

  • Walking side-by-side with individuals as they build or rebuild meaningful lives in their communities

  • Creating a sense of community and healthy relationships
  • Work and maintain an established a schedule with the supervisor, following FRC policies and procedures
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Stay in close communication with other team members and supervisor
