About The Position

Hope Haven is an accredited resource for disability services and advocacy, offering programs and support for children, adults, and families across physical, mental, intellectual, residential, vocational, and spiritual needs. The Peer Support Specialist (PSS) provides peer support to people with serious mental illness in their homes and/or community settings. The specialist must have or have had a serious mental illness and be living well in recovery. Services include emotional support, coaching and training, empowerment, and advocacy. The role is 10–15 hours a week.

Requirements

Have or have had a serious mental illness and be living well in recovery.
Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a GED or high school diploma.
Be able to complete the required 40-hour Peer Support Specialist training within six months of hire.
Have knowledge and understanding of the recovery model of service delivery.
Have good written and verbal communication skills and basic computer skills.
Be able to exercise sound judgment in making decisions.
Have reliable transportation.
Provide proof of state minimum liability insurance coverage.
Have a valid driver’s license.
Be physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Have the mobility to walk, stoop, stand, sit, and climb steps.

Responsibilities

Support peers and assist them in reaching and maintaining personal recovery goals.
Promote self-determination and support peers in maintaining relationships and increasing control and satisfaction in their lives.
Promote skills for improving mental and physical wellbeing and increasing resiliency.
Help individuals identify and use natural supports and community-based resources to reach and maintain recovery.
Collaborate with individuals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans and coping/crisis plans.
When applicable, participate in interdisciplinary meetings for individuals on the caseload.
Follow safety procedures and promote safety measures among the team and peers.
Submit receipts and mileage promptly through the online platform.
