The journey to mental health recovery and wellness has many twists and turns, challenges and opportunities. It can be intimidating and overwhelming. Some who need care never seek it. Some quit before they get started. At Alaska Behavioral Health we are ready to change that. We want every person who needs and wants help to get the care they need. Our Peer Support Specialists/ Patient Navigators are key team members who make that possible. Unlike traditional mental health providers, they do not sit behind desks or in offices and wait for client to be sent to them, they meet clients at our front doors, welcome them into care and get them access to the services they need. Unlike traditional receptionists, they are also certified health care providers, who also provide direct care and are a critical member of our integrated health care team, walking with the client throughout the treatment process. It’s outside the box – but it is what works.
