Peer Support Specialists work under supervision as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes LPHA’s, QMHP’s, and prescribers to assist individuals in services as they move toward recovery. They help individuals identify and develop community and natural supports and share available community resources with youth. They collaborate with the team to promote services and agency culture that are trauma-informed, culturally and linguistically competent, and person-driven. Drawing on their lived experience navigating behavioral health systems, Peer Support Specialists inspire hope and model relationships based on respect, trust, and validation. They support individuals in enhancing wellness, developing self-empowerment strategies, and taking concrete steps toward fulfilling, self-determined lives. As allies and advocates, they walk alongside individuals with mental health concerns; this mutuality, or “peerness,” promotes connection, builds rapport, and inspires hope. The position may require travel within Collin County using agency or personal vehicles.
