About The Position

The Peer Support / BHT works closely with the entire treatment team to provide high quality services to the clients we serve at Axiom Care. A Peer Support Specialist provides emotional, social, and practical support to individuals in recovery by sharing personal lived experience and offering guidance, encouragement, and advocacy. The role promotes hope, recovery, and empowerment. Those in this role provide direct services 1:1 and group sessions. Peer and Recovery Support Specialists provide transportation, assist clients in navigating community resources, accompany individuals to appointments or services where needed, help reduce barriers to engagement in services. Indirect service includes attending clinical oversight, staffing, other meetings as needed, and completing all clinical documentation by the end of each shift.

  • Strict adherence to ethical treatment standards.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Understand Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders: Recognize complex context of mental health and substance abuse.
  • Application to Practice - Familiar with medical and pharmacological resources and DSM-5.

  • Documentation - Write comprehensive, clear psychosocial narrative and Knowledge of regulations. Prepare accurate, concise notes and record client progress in relation to treatment goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Current and valid Peer Support Certification (Required).
  • Requires 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Lived experience and at least 1 year in recovery.
  • Active CPR and First Aid certification required (may be provided by Axiom).

Responsibilities

  • Build trusting, recovery-focused trauma informed relationships using shared lived experience.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups and support groups.
  • Educate clients on harm reduction strategies.
  • Transport clients to appointments or services when needed.
  • Collaborate with all other departments to assess client progress, needs, and barriers.
  • Always maintain strict adherence to all ethical standards and legal requirements.
  • Challenge individuals to explore their strengths and overcome obstacles.
  • Secure client information per HIPAA and CFR42 part 2 standards.
  • Attend mandatory treatment team staffing daily, clinical supervision y or other meetings as requested.
  • Perform other related tasks and projects assigned by management.
