The Peer Support Counselor position involves using lived experience and knowledge of the system to provide outreach, engagement, support, advocacy, and direct services to program clients of all age ranges. Peer Support Counselors, who have lived experience in mental health, judicial, and/or social service systems, serve as role models, companions, educators, and advocates. They support clients in their recovery journey, helping them create meaningful roles in their lives separate from their illness. The role is part of the Olive View Crisis Residential Treatment- Star View program, which operates 16-bed facilities designed for adults experiencing mental health challenges or a recent crisis requiring intensive treatment. These 24/7 programs offer an alternative to urgent care or hospitalization, allowing individuals to live on-site in a homelike setting for a short term. Clients receive counseling, learn basic living and interpersonal skills, and have access to physical and psychological evaluations, mental health, case management services, and assistance with locating permanent housing.
