About The Position

This role is responsible for providing peer specialist services to individuals served by the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team. Peer Specialists effectively provide guidance, coaching, and support to consumers and the professionals serving them based on their own lived experience with mental illness and substance abuse.

Requirements

  • Current Wisconsin resident.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license, able to be maintained throughout employment.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Licensed as a Certified Peer Specialist in the State of Wisconsin.
  • At least one (1) year of experience providing peer specialist services to individuals with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI).
  • Must be a current or former recipient of mental health services for mental illness, should have self-knowledge and self-awareness of their own mental health diagnosis/illness and how to effectively live independently and function well in the community.
  • Willing to travel within the community up to 75% of work time.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by consumers to have a satisfying life.
  • Collaborate to promote a team culture that recognizes, understands, and respects each consumer’s point of view.
  • Responsible to help maximize consumer choice, self-determination and decision-making in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of treatment, rehabilitation, and support services.
  • Provide peer counseling and consultation to individual consumers, families, and other natural supports, using their own lived experience and recovery path as a means to be in a helpful role to others.
  • Act as a liaison with community resources, carry out rehabilitative and support functions, and assist in treatment, education, support, and consultation to consumers and their natural supports under the clinical supervision of credentialed staff.
  • Complete clinically sound and timely documentation of all services rendered on behalf of consumers served by the ACT team in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Maintain a productivity level of 75% or greater.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
