About The Position

The Peer Specialist Veteran Navigator provides peer support services to assist veterans in recovery from behavioral health disorders. Certified Peer Specialists use their training and lived experience to support recovery, build resilience, and offer hope that recovery is possible. Applicants must be military veterans, as required by grant funding. The role is supervised by a qualified mental health professional as defined in the Code of State Regulations and must comply with applicable Department of Mental Health requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Applicable training and testing as required by the Department of Mental Health.
• Must be a military veteran, as required by grant funding.
• Must be supervised by a qualified mental health professional as defined in the Code of State Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterans in their recovery.
• Support, encourage, and model recovery and resilience from behavioral health disorders in ways that meet each individual’s needs.
• Provide interventions such as sharing lived experiences of recovery and supporting the use of recovery tools.
• Help veterans recognize their capacity for resilience.
• Help veterans connect with other peers and their broader community.
• Help veterans develop a network for information and support.
• Assist veterans in making independent choices and taking an active role in treatment.
• Help veterans identify their strengths and goals.
• Teach and model symptom management and problem-solving skills.
• Use the stages of recovery to promote self-determination.
• Follow the Certified Peer Specialist Code of Ethics.
• Adhere to all applicable evidence-based practice models.
• Orally communicate information effectively and accurately.
• Ensure the program operates within the constraints of the agency’s certification standards (CARF, DMH) and strategic plan related to clinical care.
• Abide by program and agency policies and procedures.
• Perform other job duties and special projects as assigned.
