About The Position

The Peer Specialist position within the B’SAANIBAMAADSIWIN PROGRAM's Indigenous Mobile Withdrawal Management Services is responsible for carrying out case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, crisis intervention, and treatment for individuals living with mental illness and/or addictions. Team members in this role possess the clinical skills and experience to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment through rehabilitative and supportive services in multidisciplinary and/or collaborative environments. This role involves providing recovery-oriented supports to clients with mental health and/or addictions needs in a congregate living setting, with a focus on Indigenous populations within the traditional lands of the Williams and Robinson Huron Treaty.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Indigenous populations within the traditional lands of the Williams and Robinson Huron Treaty (specifically Muskoka and Parry Sound Districts).
  • Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and an understanding of traditional language importance.
  • Identify and describe a range of traditional and non-traditional healing and wellness practices and sources of expertise including elders and healers (Two Eyed Seeing approach).
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively within a team environment in a rural setting.
  • One year working experience with adults in the addictions treatment system.
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Certification with Ontario Peer Development Initiative or willingness to acquire certification.
  • One-year personal experience in the mental health system as a consumer/ survivor/ or family member.
  • Experience providing case management services to those experiencing mental illness/addictions.
  • A commitment to the rights of those experiencing mental illness/addictions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, the Internet, and data management software.
  • A valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s license, a safe and reliable means of transportation, and appropriate insurance for work purposes on your vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage.
  • Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Education is a requirement.

Nice To Haves

  • Awareness and application of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery-oriented services an asset.
  • Familiarity with Psychosocial Rehabilitation principles and practices and the concept of recovery as asset.
  • Bilingual in French/English language considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve clients within the communities of the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound.
