About The Position

The Peer Support Specialist demonstrates compassion, dignity, and respect, possesses active and reflective listening skills, maintains clear boundaries, and is far enough in their recovery process to manage job difficulties without compromising their personal wellness and recovery plan. This role involves outreach and educating community and individual clients on basic mental health and substance use, providing peer-to-peer support through engagement and skill building, and maintaining current knowledge of community resources. The specialist assists with consumer forms, training, supporting, and guiding clients to address overall needs and increase community connection. They also preserve community relationships that positively impact services for individuals with mental health and substance use issues and connect with marginalized populations to link individuals to needed treatment. The position requires applying key concepts and philosophies of Diversus Health using a strengths-based, solution-focused approach and alerting the team to potential crisis interventions. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to complete NAMI's Peer Provider training program (within 90 days of hire)
  • Mental Health First Aid Training (completed within 60 days of hire)
  • Clean driving record as driving between facilities, to networking events, and outreach opportunities is required
  • Self-identified consumer in recovery from mental illness and/or substance use, OR a parent of a child with similar mental illness and/or substance use disorder, OR an adult with an on-going and/or personal experience with a family member with a similar mental illness and/or substance use disorder.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, to include Microsoft Suite, with the ability to type 25+ w.p.m. for the input and output of client information, using electronic medical records.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the capability to accurately and professionally implement and document services rendered.
  • Ability to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain personal wellness and recovery tool.
