About The Position

The Peer Support Specialist shows compassion, dignity, and respect; possesses active and reflective listening skills; has a clear sense of boundaries; and is far enough in the recovery process that they can manage job difficulties without compromising their own personal wellness and recovery plan. This role involves outreach and educating community and individual clients to provide an understanding of basic mental health and substance use education and peer-to-peer support through engagement and skill building. The specialist maintains current knowledge and information on community resources, assists in completing consumer forms, and helps train, support, and guide clients in addressing overall needs and increasing community connection. They preserve community relationships that positively impact services for individuals with mental health and substance use issues, connect with marginalized populations to provide support, and apply Diversus Health's strengths-based, solution-focused approach. The specialist also alerts the team of potential crisis interventions as needed. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to complete NAMI's Peer Provider training program (within 90 days of hire)
  • Mental Health First Aid Training (completed within 60 days of hire)
  • Clean driving record as driving between facilities, to networking events, and outreach opportunities is required
  • A parent of a child with similar mental illness and/or substance use disorder, OR an adult with an ongoing and/or personal experience with a family member with a similar mental illness and/or substance use disorder OR self-identified individual in recovery from mental illness and/or substance use
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Suite
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the capability to accurately and professionally implement and document services rendered.
  • Ability to develop professional working relationships with partner agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain personal wellness and recovery tool
  • Ability to type 25+ w.p.m. for the input and output of client information, using electronic medical records.

  • Appropriately apply key concepts and philosophies of Diversus Health when working with clients in a strengths-based, solution-focused approach.
  • Alert team of potential crisis interventions as needed.
