About The Position

Transitional Services for New York, Inc. (TSINY), a not-for-profit, community-based mental health organization, is seeking a Full-time Peer Respite Supervisor for one of its Residential Programs in Queen Village, NY. TSINY provides a continuum of rehabilitative services to enrich the lives of individuals recovering from mental illness and to facilitate their transition to increased independence. The organization envisions broadening its services and becoming a regional social service provider, with staff committed to delivering effective programs with compassion, integrity, and professionalism, prioritizing client needs while respecting themselves and each other.

Requirements

Have a bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
Possess a full Peer Certification.
Experience in working within a crisis, mentor or peer setting for a period of at least a year.
Be able to use judgment to assess and screen appropriate cases for the respite.
Experience as a recipient of mental health services and a willingness to share personal practice experience, knowledge and first-hand insight to benefit program enrollers.

Responsibilities

Provide community outreach as needed.
Linkage with community supports health and mental health providers.
Peer counseling.
Directly supervise peer respite staff on day-to-day operations.
Identify supportive community resources to assist the individuals in the program.
Provide recovery readiness services in groups and individual counseling.
Conduct building tours.
Provide mentorship support to individuals in the program.
Outreach and engage individuals in program services.
Converse with shifts going off duty for any pertinent information, i.e., appointments, overall guests’ behaviors, changes in medication, etc.
Document in Communication Log any pertinent information regarding guests.
Facilitate co-reflection supervision with peer-respite staff.
Document all sessions in progress notes.
Create and maintain staff work schedules with support from Program Director.
Supervise and, when necessary, complete housekeeping activities, such as mopping, sweeping, cleaning bathrooms, making beds, etc. to provide a clean, safe and healthy environment for respite guests and staff.
Participate in staff meetings and other community meetings.
Assist, mentor and monitor peer respite staff to obtain peer certification.
Thoroughly inspect assigned guests' rooms for safety measures and report any damages or problems to shift supervisor.
Attend special on-site and off-site training, seminars, conferences, etc.
Support consumers in the development of a WRAP Plan.
Be able to sit or stand as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation.
May require walking, primarily on a level surface, for short periods throughout the day, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Be able to reach above shoulder heights, below the waist or lift as required to file documents or store materials throughout the workday, with or without reasonable accommodation.
During a declared disaster, assume and adhere to assigned Job Action role(s) consistent with Disaster Preparedness Plan.
Attend job and Agency training as required to maintain compliance and ensure continued professional development.
Perform other related duties as required.
