About The Position

OhioGuidestone is the state's leader in community behavioral health care, serving around 26,000 Ohioans each year. This role involves providing peer-based support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals in recovery from addiction and/or co-occurring disorders. The position requires meeting with clients regularly, assisting in crisis situations, educating clients on recovery models and resources, and connecting them with community support. The goal is to promote client empowerment, independence, and the development of individualized recovery plans. Responsibilities also include navigating the healthcare system, accompanying clients to appointments, maintaining documentation, participating in trainings, and collaborating with professionals and community partners. The role emphasizes demonstrating agency values, meeting productivity standards, and exhibiting professionalism and a positive attitude.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification as a Peer Recovery Supporter (or ability to obtain certification in accordance with state requirements) or Youth Peer Recovery Supporter.
  • Lived experience in recovery and ability to model and promote long-term recovery.
  • Effective interpersonal skills; able to speak effectively with individuals and/or groups of people.
  • Ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and good professional judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to handle multiple priorities with strict attention to detail and perform work independently.
  • Ability to maintain relevant, timely documentation as required.
  • Effective computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health records, etc.
  • Must be able to access work locations, offices, and homes as necessary, which may include ascending/descending stairs.
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment screenings, including drug tests, background checks, and any other required assessments, such as a physical examination and TB test.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong knowledge of community, county, and court resources preferred.
  • Prior work or volunteer experience as a Recovery Coach or in a peer support role preferred.
  • Flexible; able to work days, evenings, and/or weekends, as desired to meet the needs of clients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer-based support, encouragement, and guidance to individuals in recovery from addiction and/or co-occurring disorders.
  • Meet with clients regularly, adjusting frequency of contact based on client needs and in consultation with a supervisor.
  • Assist clients in crisis situations and provide stabilization support when needed.
  • Educate clients on recovery models, available resources, and pathways to long-term recovery.
  • Connect clients with community resources and help them build supportive sober networks.
  • Promote client empowerment through self-advocacy, development of life skills, and activities that encourage independence.
  • Support clients in identifying barriers to recovery, setting personal recovery goals, and developing individualized Recovery Support Plans.
  • Guide clients in navigating the healthcare system and coordinating services with other providers and agencies.
  • Accompany clients to meetings, appointments, visitations, or court hearings as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, ensuring confidentiality of client information in accordance with agency guidelines.
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and program assessments; support compliance with funder requirements.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and maintain ongoing communication with community partners and support networks.
  • Meet established productivity standards while modeling recovery, adhering to the Certified Peer Supporter Code of Ethics, and demonstrating consistent reliability and professionalism.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment and a culture of belonging.
  • Present the Agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.
