About The Position

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist provides recovery-oriented support to individuals residing in recovery housing by leveraging lived experience to promote engagement, stability, and long-term wellness. This role focuses on fostering a supportive, structured, and recovery-focused living environment through peer mentorship, facilitation of in-home recovery activities, and connection to community resources. The specialist serves as a role model, advocate, and motivator, helping residents build daily living skills, strengthen recovery pathways, and actively participate in both house-based and community recovery activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma/ G.E.D.
  • Must have lived experience in addiction recovery
  • Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter
  • Must pass BCI check, all Corporate Compliance checks, and employment drug screen

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage and support individuals residing in recovery housing who are in recovery from a substance use disorder
  • Provide services directly within recovery housing environments, including shared living spaces, as well as in the community
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate recovery-focused activities within the housing setting (e.g., life skills groups, wellness activities, peer-led discussions, goal-setting sessions)
  • Support and encourage residents to participate in community-based recovery activities, including mutual aid meetings, social/recreational events, and structured programming
  • Assist residents with transportation and coordination to attend recovery meetings, appointments, employment opportunities, and other pro-social community activities
  • Express understanding, support, and respect for multiple pathways to recovery; provide services primarily in person or by phone as appropriate
  • Serve as a positive role model within the housing environment by demonstrating healthy recovery behaviors, routines, and community living skills
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and recovery-oriented living environment that promotes accountability, peer support, and personal growth
  • Assist residents in identifying personal interests, strengths, goals, and barriers related to their recovery journey and independent living
  • Support residents in developing daily living skills such as time management, communication, conflict resolution, and maintaining a structured routine
  • Collaborate with housing staff, case management, and clinical teams to support resident progress and address emerging needs
  • Assist individuals in accessing appropriate levels of care in consultation with licensed behavioral health clinicians
  • Maintain confidentiality of peer relationships in accordance with applicable regulations, including mandated reporting requirements in the State of Ohio
  • Serve as a mandated reporter
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate peer-led groups and house meetings as needed
  • Maintain required documentation, including electronic health records, billing documentation, activity logs, and group attendance records
  • Participate in regular team meetings, case staffing, and supervision
  • Perform other duties as assigned
