About The Position

Responsible for the delivery of recovery coach services to Agency clients. This role involves facilitating the transition from a professionally directed substance abuse treatment plan to a client developed and client directed Recovery Wellness Plan. The specialist will listen to clients, express genuine care, identify areas for growth and provide feedback on recovery progress. They will also assist clients in resolving obstacles to recovery, connect them with resources such as sober housing and employment, and provide normative information about recovery stages. Coaching and support will be provided through one-on-one sessions, group meetings, and telephonic contact. The role also includes providing sober companionship and acting as a social bridge from addiction to recovery. Maintaining client confidentiality and intervening to protect clients are also key responsibilities. The position requires an open mind to various paths to recovery and adherence to agency policies and values.

  • Must have Recovery Coach Certification within three months of assuming the position and must maintain certification in good standing.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Must have an open mind to the many paths to recovery.

  • Required driving position.
  • This position is defined as one that will require you to drive a motor vehicle as part of your daily work.
  • This position does allow the employee to drive motor vehicles owned or leased by Burlington United Methodist Services, Inc., and to transport employees and residents when and if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicates emergency situations in a timely manner to Counselor Coordinator or Clinical Manager.
  • Transports clients as directed and follows Agency standards, rules, regulations, and all laws for safe transport.
  • Accompanies clients/ensures clients are accompanied when they are transported to seek emergency medical treatment relative to their physical or mental health.
  • Performs outreach work with clients; engages hard-to-reach individuals into recovery-related activities.
  • Facilitates the transition from a professionally directed substance abuse treatment plan to a client developed and client directed Recovery Wellness Plan.
  • Listens to the client and expresses genuine care.
  • Is trusted with confidences and identifies areas for potential growth.
  • Provides feedback to clients on the recovery progress.
  • Identifies areas to the client which have presented or may present roadblocks to continued abstinence.
  • Assists clients with identifying and resolving personal and environmental obstacles to recovery.
  • Is knowledgeable of links for clients to sources of sober housing, recovery-conducive employment, health and social services, and recovery support.
  • Matches clients to particular support groups or 12 step-meetings.
  • Provides clients with normative information about the stages of recovery.
  • Assists in facilitating the process necessary to remain free from addiction, informs clients of the professional helpers within the community, and about the prevalence, pathways, and lifestyle of long-term recovery.
  • Processes clients' responses to professional services to reinforce treatment services and encourages successful outcomes.
  • Provides coaching and support to clients as challenges arise from everyday activities through one-on-one sessions, group meetings, and telephonic contact.
  • Assists clients and their families to develop sobriety-based rituals of daily living.
  • Provides sober companionship; acts as a social bridge from the culture of addiction to the culture of recovery.
  • Has an effective interaction with all Recovery Coach Volunteers, the Counselor Coordinator, and facility program administrative staff.
  • Maintains confidentiality of client files and individual client Recovery Wellness Plans and Recovery Checklists.
  • Intervenes as necessary to protect clients from injuring other clients and or themselves.
  • Supports the mission and vision of Burlington United Methodist Family Services as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an appreciation of a multicultural workplace.
