About The Position

Brandywine Counseling & Community Services, Inc. (BCCS) is seeking a Part-Time Weekend Peer Recovery Specialist for their Dover Hopes and Dreams Drop-in Center. BCCS has been a trusted provider of substance abuse and behavioral health treatment since 1985, focusing on helping community members recover with dignity. They enhance quality of life through education, advocacy, prevention, early intervention, and treatment services, promoting hope and empowerment to individuals and families affected by mental illness, substance abuse, HIV, and co-occurring diagnoses.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Valid driver's license with 2 points or less
Must be a peer (in recovery from addiction to drugs, alcohol, or mental health)
Minimum of 2 years’ in recovery

Nice To Haves

Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS). If not certified, certification is required within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

Supports clients in building social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition.
Educate and empower individuals by assisting them in developing a strong, stable recovery support system.
Assist individuals with self-care and self-awareness, encouragement and support, teaching coping skills and teaching the positive benefits of long-term recovery.
Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the Peer Recovery Supervisor.
Supports clients in articulating personal goals for recovery and wellness and the objectives necessary to reach his or her recovery and wellness goals.
Teaches clients how to facilitate their recovery.
Teaches clients techniques for identifying and combatting negative self-talk, identifying, and overcoming fears.
Teaches and role models the value of every individual’s recovery experience.
Utilizes and teaches problem-solving techniques with individuals and groups.
Completes wellness plans- makes appropriate referrals to outside agencies.
