About The Position

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to provide peer recovery support services to individuals with primarily substance use disorders, but also mental health, co-occurring, and/or gambling disorders. This position will also respond to opioid-related crises, staff a recovery and wellness center, and support individuals in their path to recovery. The goal is to remove and/or overcome obstacles to recovery by finding resources, guiding, advocating, supporting, and assisting individuals to begin and maintain recovery. These functions will be performed while adhering to the ethical responsibilities of a peer recovery specialist.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • One year of experience providing peer recovery support services.
  • Must be in a state of recovery for 2 years from a substance use, mental health or co-occurring disorder before being qualified to be hired.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Peer Specialist classifications or Peer Specialist and specialty codes in the health-related field of work for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with criminal justice populations.
  • An active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist credential.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and data collection.
  • Possess a current certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist within 12 months from date of hire from the Maryland Addictions Professional Certification Board (MAPCB).
  • Possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
