Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board: Our Story Since 1971, Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board has provided the highest quality of behavioral health services to residents of the cities of Hampton and Newport News, Virginia, offering a comprehensive array of programs for both children and adults living with mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or substance use disorders. As a Peer Recovery Specialist I at the BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center, you will play a pivotal role in providing peer support and serving as a consumer advocate for individuals navigating their recovery journeys. You will carry out essential support functions aimed at addressing basic physical, financial, social, personal, and recovery needs. Your responsibilities will include monitoring, advocacy, and daily living support, integral to the 23-hour program. In this position, you will develop skills to utilize tools like the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Advance Directive, empowering individuals to create personalized wellness and recovery plans. Working alongside treatment team members, you'll employ problem-solving techniques in both individual and group settings. By sharing your own experiences with mental health services, you will offer valuable insights into the skills, strengths, and resources that contribute to effective coping strategies for daily living.
