About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Peer Education Assistant for the Human Rights and Equity (HRE) Office at its Burlington Campus. This part-time, student position is a 35-week contract from August 2026 through April 2027, with an hourly rate of $17.20. The role involves empowering students to become agents of positive change by providing resources, referrals, and opportunities to connect with others committed to equity and human rights. The Peer Assistant will support the development and facilitation of workshops, assist with HRE events, engage in outreach and engagement activities, provide administrative support, and conduct research on social justice issues. The position requires availability for in-person program delivery at the Burlington campus, with occasional travel to the St. Catharines campus, and some evenings and weekends will be required. Team members report to the Associate Director, EDI Education and Outreach.

Requirements

  • Must be a current Brock University student as of September 2026.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, time management and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Strong public presentation, workshop, and event facilitation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and facilitation of general HRE and EDI workshops to increase awareness of Human Rights & Equity and available supports and resources at Brock.
  • Provide in person or online support for an array of prominent HRE events, programs and workshops (e.g., International Women’s Day, Black Student Symposium, Pride events, December 6) to ensure smooth operations and address any issues that arise.
  • Coordinate room bookings, equipment rentals, and other necessary arrangements for events and workshops.
  • Engage in ongoing reading and learning on relevant issues related to Human Rights & Equity and share this learning with the EDI Manager to suggest and co-create new resources for the Brock.
  • Engage in information sharing at Brock throughout the year including greeting students, distributing education and awareness materials, and answering questions.
  • Liaise and collaborate with campus and community partners and underrepresented student groups to create connections, partner on programs and initiatives, and affirm communities.
  • Assist in drafting and distributing program materials, including flyers, newsletters, and social media posts.
  • Monitor the HRE Days of Significance calendar and develop and repost social media content.
  • Provide general administrative support for meetings and events, including preparation and setup for meetings and taking minutes during meetings to support documentation of discussions and decisions.
  • Support the financial administration of HRE events and workshops through the processing of expense reports, invoices and receipts.
  • Utilize data management tools to track program and event metrics and outcomes.
  • Stay informed on social justice issues and current events, including through academic research and community engagement.
  • Review best practices and research related to social justice initiatives, seeking out innovative and effective methods of promoting equity and inclusion.
  • Use research and best practices to inform programming and advocacy efforts, ensuring that the HRE Office is providing the most effective and relevant resources and information to students.
  • Share research and resources with the broader campus community through newsletters, social media, and other communication channels.
