About The Position

UVA Pediatrics Culpeper is seeking a Full-Time Pediatrician to provide comprehensive physician services. This role involves assessing and managing patients in various settings, including clinics, hospitals, and assisted living facilities. The pediatrician will collaborate with the medical director, administrative management, office manager, and nursing staff to facilitate patient care within the healthcare system. The position requires independent judgment in diagnosing and initiating medical processes, performing health histories and physical assessments, formulating diagnoses, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and performing procedures within the scope of practice. The pediatrician will also order medications, request consultations, and provide information and support to patients and families. This role includes participation in on-call responsibilities, managing patients according to UVA Health System policies, and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Additionally, the position involves reporting critical health information, meeting quality standards, potentially serving on committees, and participating in the education of medical students and other healthcare professionals. The role also includes updating practice through continuing education and serving as a clinical resource.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Accredited medical school with degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO).
  • Completion of Accredited Residency in chosen specialty.
  • Board certification in specialty (if newly graduated from residency, must be obtained within 2 years of graduation) must be kept current.
  • Unrestricted license to practice within the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Current DEA certificate without restriction.
  • Experience utilizing a personal computer and computerized scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Providing physician services, including assessing and managing patients in the clinic and other locations (hospital, assisted living facility, ambulatory surgery center).
  • Working in conjunction with the medical director, administrative management, office manager, and nursing staff to facilitate patient management.
  • Exercising independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosing, and initiation of medical processes or procedures.
  • Performing and legibly documenting comprehensive health histories and physical assessments on assigned patients and episodic evaluations on others.
  • Formulating diagnoses and identifying problems and health risk profiles of selected patients and documenting and communicating this information to other members of the health care team.
  • Performing, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic studies, such as x-rays and laboratory tests, in consultation with staff.
  • Performing procedures and/or surgeries within scope of practice and UVA Health System credentials/privileges.
  • Ordering medications, treatment, and therapies in accordance with Virginia Prescriptive regulations.
  • Requesting consultation and initiating referrals to other physicians, including specialists and other healthcare providers.
  • Evaluating and analyzing patient responses to the disease process or therapeutic or diagnostic interventions.
  • Providing information and support to patients and families regarding disease process and treatment plan.
  • Participating in on-call responsibilities either in practice or inpatient environment.
  • Educating patient and families regarding planned diagnostic procedures, medications, and treatments.
  • Managing patients in accordance with established UVA Health System and UVA UPG policies and procedures.
  • Participating in hospital, nursing home, assisted living, or other institutional care setting practice if appropriate.
  • Examining systems and processes in populations and recommending, developing, implementing, and evaluating strategies for improvement.
  • Promoting timely and compassionate communication between families and health care team.
  • Reporting in a timely manner births, deaths, outbreaks of contagious diseases, and other information critical to the patient’s and/or the public’s health.
  • Meeting quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health System.
  • Serving on selected committees of nursing, medical, and administrative staff as needed.
  • Participating in the clinical experience of medical students, interns, residents, and graduate nurses as appropriate.
  • Participating in group peer and other review activities.
  • Preparing and attending to all reports, claims, and correspondence necessary or appropriate to the performance of the professional services.
  • Promoting the professional practice of the group.
  • Performing other duties as assigned occasionally that are commensurate with professional service normally and customarily provided by a physician.
  • Following policies and procedures, including those of UPG, UVA Health System, CMS, and other contracted payers.
  • Accurately assigning Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Codes and ICD Diagnosis codes.
  • Working with Administrative Management on the implementation of policies regarding Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABN) and other payor requirements.
  • Participating in activities that contribute to the education of other health care professionals.
  • Developing and presenting educational programs to the medical and nursing staff.
  • Participating in the design and development of teaching materials.
  • Updating practice through continuing education by attending conferences, rounds, reports, lectures, journal clubs, and regional/national professional conferences.
  • Serving as clinical resource in the care of patients to nursing, medical, and allied healthcare practitioners.
  • Seeking professional growth opportunities that enhance professional practice through both formal and informal activities.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.
