About The Position

BioMarin is the world leader in delivering therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with serious and life-threatening rare genetic diseases. We target diseases that lack effective therapies and affect relatively small numbers of patients, many of whom are children. These conditions are often inherited, difficult to diagnose, progressively debilitating, and have few, if any, treatment options. BioMarin will continue to focus on advancing therapies that are the first or best of their kind. This role will work alongside the Skeletal Dysplasia Sales team, which focuses on patients living with Achondroplasia. Achondroplasia is the most common form of human dwarfism and is characterized by failure of normal conversion of cartilage into bone, which results in disproportionate short stature. The Pediatric Specialist is responsible for maximizing prescriptions/referrals within key accounts and institutions throughout geography, representing BioMarin commercialized products in their area. They must demonstrate a consultative selling approach and ability to demonstrate credibility and develop trust with multiple layers of decision makers within the HCP offices. They will need ability to customize and deliver clinical content in a straightforward and actionable way to drive more product adoption at local level. Accountability throughout all stages of the “find” from lead validation to referral and/or from prescriber to product adoption. The Pediatric Specialist will also have a role in messaging with HCP’s that have current patients on therapy. SUMMARY The ideal candidate will have sales experience in pediatrics and/or comparable sales experience. The Pediatric Specialist maintains a high level of knowledge within the disease state and product labeling. The primary call target is pediatrics and key subspecialties to drive awareness and utilization in targeted patient segments. Targeted pediatricians with ACH patients will be key call points in filling the funnel and activating brand awareness and loyalty. Activities include disease state and product education to HCPs. Must be goal-oriented and accountable for their individual performance, while acting in a professional and compliant manner. Cold calling on all targeted specialties is a requirement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-4 years of pharma focused on primary care call points is preferred (with desire to be in rare disease)
  • Pediatrics/Generalists experience strongly preferred
  • Comparable and/or strong B2B experience with desire to get into pharma (device, diagnostics background)
  • Cold Calling experience in health care or previous work experience
  • Experience with office-based selling in complex model of referral-health-care-providers to prescriber-health-care-providers in newly created market
  • Experience working in a field team model with account managers

Responsibilities

  • Pediatric Specialist will be accountable for achieving territory goals measured in referrals and new prescriptions with Pediatric/Generalist HCP’s
  • This consists of growing new Achondroplasia sites and working with AMs to educate clinicians on the importance of consistent treatment (regionally)
  • Drive awareness of the product among assigned targeted HCPs.
  • Profile accounts and edit lead list to ensure correct targets are reached at an appropriate frequency.
  • Validate HCP is appropriate for product education and increase the urgency to treat and/or refer in territory
  • Pediatric Specialists will be accountable for tracking all related activities in CRM system to understand referral patterns
  • Will be accountable for their individual performance and metrics
  • Expectations are to adhere to a highly regulated industry, be consistent with training, policies, guidelines, and their own best judgment while adhering to all company policies assigned to the Account Manager position.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and remain agile as organization evolves.
  • The BioMarin Pediatric Specialist will also act as a Regional Player/Coach and assist in the training, development, and performance of all contracted Ped Specialist in the region to maximize results. This will include, but not limited to the following:
  • Developing an effective regional business plan to guide strategy, tactics and track progress across all contracted PSS.
  • Regional check-ins with all PSS (team calls)
  • 1:1 check-ins w all regional PSS
  • Monitoring of PSS business planning, and sharing insight and best practices with the National Sales Leader with Inizio Engage to optimize utilization
  • Training/Field based Coaching of all PSS and ensuring current PSS are driving impact
  • Work with BMRN Regional Directors on which clinics prioritize for continued education to supplement work of AMs (protect in smaller clinics)
  • Will be a mix of robust opportunistic as well as accounts in need of additional education
