This position provides ongoing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) care for hospital inpatients through screening, prioritizing, assessing, and recommending interventions. The role involves adapting workflow to patient load fluctuations and developing/implementing individualized nutrition plans of care based on expert assessment of life cycle- and diagnosis-specific nutritional needs. This includes reviewing medical history, laboratory data, patient interviews, and physical examinations. The dietitian will prescribe enteral and parenteral nutrition support, manage TPN infusions, and order therapeutic diets and supplements. Collaboration with physicians, pharmacy, and the Food and Nutrition patient services team is essential to ensure patient intake aligns with prescriptions and interdisciplinary plans. The role also involves leading efforts to identify, treat, and prevent malnutrition, performing Nutrition Focused Physical Examinations, and documenting findings for reimbursement. Education is provided to patients, families, and teammates. The position supports department clinical initiatives, maintains regulatory readiness, and may provide outpatient nutrition support. Additionally, the role involves precepting dietetic graduate students and medical residents, providing nutrition lectures, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams for patient transitions. The dietitian will also participate in system clinical nutrition initiatives and practice changes, liaising between clinical nutrition and other departments to champion initiatives. Assistance to other sites may be required.
