The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members. The Salt Lake Campus is ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the United States, providing specialized care for more than 1 million children living in a 400,000 square-mile service area and beyond. Our 32-bed Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Unit specializes in providing comprehensive care to children with cancer, hematologic disorders, and those undergoing bone marrow transplants. Our patients range from infancy to young adults. In this fast-paced and high acuity environment, our nurses administer many IV medications and blood products. Because of this acuity, our ratios are 2-3 patients per nurse. To support our nurses’ professional growth, we spread out learning and skill development over two years, starting with chemotherapy certification and advancing through tiered bone marrow transplant education. This structured approach ensures our team delivers the highest standard of care while continuously building expertise in oncology and hematology nursing.

Requirements

• Current RN License in state of practice.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Or willing to obtain within for years of hire date.

Nice To Haves

• 2 or more years of RN work experience
• Pediatric RN work experience
• Oncology and hematology trained and or certified

Responsibilities

• Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients.
• Utilizing the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.
• Administering many IV medications and blood products.
• Providing comprehensive care to children with cancer, hematologic disorders, and those undergoing bone marrow transplants.
• Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Communicating verbally and hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
• Manipulating complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
• Documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
• Lifting and utilizing full range of movement to transfer patients.
• Bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
• Walking and assisting with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
• Pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
• Navigating crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
• Standing in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
