About The Position

Inova Children’s is seeking a dedicated, compassionate Pediatric Pulmonology Advanced Practice Provider to join a growing pediatric physician team caring for a diverse pediatric population. This role involves providing inpatient/outpatient care for congenital/acquired airway & lung diseases, as well as sleep disordered breathing across hospital and outpatient clinic settings. The provider will complement an accredited Cystic Fibrosis Center and work with multidisciplinary clinics via the Inova Children’s Complex Care model. Opportunities for teaching residents and medical students are available. The Specialty Advanced Practice Provider exercises independent judgement in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of medical processes and procedures, in accordance with the licensure regulations of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and as delineated in the written Scope of Practice and Protocol. Demonstrates respect for and an understanding of other clinical disciplines while using an integrated team-based approach to achieve desired patient outcomes. Utilizes evidenced based standards, guidelines and protocols for care delivery. Participates in quality and best practice initiatives by utilizing standards and guidelines for cost effective care delivery to continuously improve patient care and enhance outcomes. Performs high-quality clinical practices and effective patient management under physician supervision by following state regulations, including primary and secondary specialty care in clinical practice settings. This full-time position is eligible for a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.

Requirements

  • For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners, American Association of Colleges of Nursing of the National League for Nursing
  • For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
  • Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License (depending on State of primary residence)
  • A license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia
  • A "Practice Agreement" signed by sponsoring/ supervising physician(s)
  • A written "Scope of Practice/Protocol" signed by the supervising physician
  • "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start
  • Ability to successfully complete the credentialing process by third-party payors
  • Ability to be enrolled as a CMS Medicare/Medicaid payor
  • Successful completion of credentialing for Medical Staff membership and appropriate clinical privileges sufficient to perform all required services

Responsibilities

  • Practices in accordance with safe and effective standards of care and ensures compliance with professional and ethical standards of practice
  • Communicates appropriately with physicians, peers, nursing staff and other healthcare providers
  • Develops differential diagnosis and plans of care based on data collection and revises based on physiologic and psychosocial findings
  • Interprets and synthesizes laboratory, imaging and other pertinent data and reviews patient plan of care with interdisciplinary team and with the patient and family
  • Evaluates and documents patients' response to care, and evaluates impact of illness on patients' health status, functional status, nutritional status, sleep and rest patterns, family and social relationships, and establishes a health promotion strategy
  • Assumes clinical management for the specialty patient population in collaboration with physicians in practice
  • Provides accurate record keeping as evidenced by complete and pertinent history and physicals, pre-operative and progress notes, discharge summaries and data information sheets
  • Serves as a role model and preceptor for new Advanced Practice Providers and students
  • Participates in and supports the departmental and system-wide quality performance improvement initiatives
  • Supports departmental cost savings strategies and provides care in an efficient and cost conscious manner
  • Assists in the development and revision of standards for patient populations and integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practice
  • Participates in clinical research and data collection and assists in projects and planning for continual development of respective specialty
  • Provides clinical and professional educational programs to improve staff knowledge
  • Proactively assists peers with work tasks
  • May perform additional duties as assigned
