About The Position

Under the supervision of a physician and following written guidelines of protocol, the incumbent will perform medical examinations, selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks, and other special procedures to assist in the delivery of primary care to patients of all ages for the Ventura County Health Care Agency - Ambulatory Care. The ideal candidate for this position is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. This class is distinguished from other nursing classes in that incumbents perform specialized examinations of patients, make basic diagnoses, and decide on a treatment plan as allowable under a State of California Nurse Practitioner License. Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive. This incentive may be 2.5%, 3.5%, or 5% for incumbents in eligible positions based on completion of an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's degree that is not required for the classification. Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill. Certification pay is available at a rate of $0.813 per hour, with one certification potentially paid at $2.00 per hour for a National Certification.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current valid license as a Registered Nurse
  • Must possess a Nurse Practitioner Certificate issued by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing
  • Must possess a certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) OR as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
  • Must possess a National Provider Identifier (NPI) for billing purposes upon hire
  • Previous experience working with pediatric patients
  • Previous experience in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months of experience in the area of clinical assignment
  • DEA license number
  • A Furnishing Number from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive primary care services to pediatric patients, including well-child visits and specialty care, routine check-ups, developmental screenings, and management of acute and chronic conditions
  • Administers and updates vaccinations according to established guidelines
  • Conducts thorough physical exams, obtains medical histories, and orders/interprets diagnostic tests
  • Provides education and counseling to patients and their families on health maintenance, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices
  • Provides specialty care in the areas of pediatric diabetes, pediatric endocrinology and/or obesity medicine
  • Collaborates with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care
  • Works directly with pediatric diabetes and endocrinology specialty along with primary care pediatricians
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and contributes to a positive patient experience
  • Performs related duties as required
