Pediatric Palliative Care Physician – MSK Kids
About The Position
The Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking a Pediatric Palliative Care Physician to join the Pediatric Advanced Care Team (PACT). PACT provides pain and palliative care services for children and young adults with cancer and cancer-related illnesses. PACT is a busy and growing service offering advanced pain and symptom management and palliative care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The team consists of physicians, nurse practitioners, an office practice nurse, and office and clinic care coordinators. PACT collaborates closely with integrative medicine, pediatric psychiatry and psychology, child life, social work, and chaplaincy, as well as primary oncology services. Strong relationships exist with regional hospices. The position is for a physician who is board-eligible/board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hospice and palliative medicine, interested in a clinically focused academic career. The role encompasses clinical care, research, education, advocacy, community outreach, and coordinated care with local home hospice services. The Department of Pediatrics offers a robust research infrastructure to support various research interests. This search is open to candidates at all career experience levels, with appointments made at an academic level commensurate with experience. MSK offers both clinician educator and research pathways.
Requirements
- Full unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New York (or licensed in another jurisdiction and eligible for licensure in New York and New Jersey).
- Doctor of Medicine (MD), Osteopathy (DO) or equivalent.
- Board-certified in Pediatrics and/or Board-eligible in Palliative Care.
- Eligible for appointment ranging from Assistant Member to Member.
- Demonstrated focus on family-centered care for a wide range of children and young adults with cancer.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment and to lead teams.
- Respect for diversity.
- Professional competence, ethical standards, and the ability to serve as a role model for other faculty, fellows, and resident physicians.
Responsibilities
- Direct patient care for children and young adults with cancer or cancer-related conditions in inpatient, PICU, day hospital, pediatric urgent care, and outpatient clinics.
- Inpatient and outpatient service time divided among three physicians.
- Home call equally shared among physicians to address urgent inpatient concerns.
- Providing education to pediatric residents, pediatric hematology/oncology fellows, palliative care fellows, visiting medical students, residents, and fellows, and pediatric faculty and staff.
- Academic pursuits based on candidate interests with protected time provided, including research studies, quality improvement, and program development.
- Facilitating development of a pediatric palliative care fellowship track.
