About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food & Nutrition is seeking a Pediatric Outpatient Clinical Dietitian. This position uses the Nutrition Care Process to assess, evaluate, and provide medical nutrition therapy and nutrition counseling for pediatric outpatients. The role involves teaching Master of Clinical Nutrition Students, participating in multidisciplinary teams, and developing nutritional components of care. The dietitian will demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles appropriate to the patient's age and status. The department intends to hire one candidate for either the Clinical Dietitian I or Clinical Dietitian II classification, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position is located in Iowa City, Iowa, and is a regular salaried position with a fringe benefit package.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Clinical Dietitian I)
  • Candidates registered prior to January 01, 2024 a Bachelor’s degree in Foods and Nutrition or Dietetics is required (for Clinical Dietitian I)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required
  • Licensure by the State of Iowa is required
  • Master’s Degree in Food and Nutrition or Dietetics or an equivalent combination of education and experience (for Clinical Dietitian II)
  • 5 years of clinical nutrition experience (for Clinical Dietitian II)
  • Demonstrated competency of patient care in pediatric populations across a wide range of medical conditions in the outpatient setting (for Clinical Dietitian II)
  • Experience in making enteral and parenteral recommendations and selecting appropriate formulas (for Clinical Dietitian II)

Responsibilities

  • Provides quality patient care including nutrition screening, evaluation, assessment, treatment, and documentation of patient care plan appropriate for patient.
  • Educates students with on-the-job training. Evaluates students. Provides students with necessary support and assistance to ensure work is completed.
  • Assesses nutrition status and instructs/counsels patient on appropriate diet.
  • Participate as part of the medical team concerning problems affecting patients' food habits and needs and participate in health team rounds concerning patient care.
  • Assist in the implementation of studies and short-term projects.
  • Performs special projects as assigned.
  • Participates as active member of departmental/hospital committees.
  • Review and analyze production, maintenance of standards, costs and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress of work and to control or reduce costs.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Assists other dietitians as needed.
