About The Position

The pediatric ophthalmology program provides specialized care for children with vision problems or diseases of the eye, as well as adults with double vision or misalignment of the eyes. The program offers a comprehensive approach including diagnosis, optometrist or orthoptic assessment and treatment, medical treatment, and surgical interventions for all pediatric eye disorders. The specialized team includes certified ophthalmic technicians, orthoptists, pediatric optometrists, pediatric ophthalmologists, opticians, and medical social workers. The program is also involved in research with the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG), funded by the National Eye Institute (NEI) of the National Institute of Health (NIH). Corewell Health operates over 300 outpatient clinics across Michigan, offering diverse care options and opportunities for staff to learn and specialize.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Ability to perform basic ophthalmic care workups
• 1 year of relevant experience working in medical setting, ophthalmology

Nice To Haves

• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 120 Days required or CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 120 Days required
• CRT-Ophthalmic Assistant, Certified (COA) - Upon Hire preferred
• CRT-Ophthalmic Technician, Certified (COT) - Upon Hire preferred

Responsibilities

• Assists with patient care as directed by the Ophthalmologist.
• Performs various vision tests, collects medical data and performs diagnostic studies.
• Assists team with minor surgical procedures in the clinic.
• Provides patient education regarding pre and post surgical care.
• Monitors and maintains clinic flow, assists with various administrative duties within the Ophthalmology Department.
• Provides phone triage under the direction of the physician.
