About The Position

Gillette Children's is seeking a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Occupational Therapist to join the Gillette Children's Rehabilitation Therapies team at our Maple Grove location. This role involves Monday to Friday day shifts performing outpatient care with the occasional weekend required to cover inpatient services at our St. Paul hospital location. The position provides direct and indirect family-centered therapy services for patients to increase functional abilities, independence, and community integration. The therapist will also contribute to department, program, and service teams to assure the achievement of desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • Occupational Therapy State License.
  • Registration and Licensure pending, not to exceed three months in this status for OT.
  • Current certification in CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association) or must obtain certification within 90-days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • NBCOT strongly preferred for Occupational Therapists
  • Pediatric experience strongly preferred
  • Competency in occupational therapy evaluation, treatment and related family/community education and planning for transition to community services.
  • Knowledge of child growth and development, rehabilitation theory and practice with a wide variety of childhood onset diagnoses and related considerations including anatomy and neurology, emotional behavior factors, family needs and issues, community transition and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Completes an evaluation utilizing principles of family-centered care, designing assessments consistent with goals, provider order, patient/family input, and priorities. Obtains necessary history and background information, selects appropriate evaluation methods, tools, and environment, and administers evaluations consistent with best practices and Gillette competencies. Interprets evaluations to the patient/family, seeking their assessment of reliability and validity. Makes recommendations for treatment, referrals, equipment, resources, and home/community-based activities. Documents and bills for evaluation.
  • Implements a therapy care plan utilizing principles of family-centered care, designing and implementing plans including frequency, intensity, duration, and modalities. Coordinates with related services and home/community-based resources and referrals based on patient and family needs, preferences, and priorities. Identifies desired functional outcomes and goals for initial care plan recertification. Monitors progress toward goals and objectives, identifies the need for modification of goals or intervention program, and appropriate discontinuation of intervention. Periodically completes evaluation and assessment to determine if the amount and rate of progress is appropriate. Designs home programs that facilitate goal attainment and generalization of new skills to home and community. Prepares the patient and family for discharge from therapy and indications for follow-up therapy care.
  • Completes necessary administrative and procedural tasks in a timely manner, including timely and complete documentation for effective communication to the ordering provider, patient/family, and payers, and to assure continuity of care (aiming for same-day documentation for 80% of cases). Completes safety, incident, time-keeping, and customer service documentation same day. Uses time productively in direct and indirect patient care, department contributions, and assisting team members as needed.
