Requirements

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Completion of a formal program in medical assisting with appropriate certificate.
  • Current CPR/AED certification preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual or trilingual ability preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records software.
  • CCMA or CMA National certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, directs them to an exam room, and uses two patient identifiers to confirm identity.
  • Completes patient intake and documents appropriately.
  • Interviews patient and take their brief history. This includes temperature, blood pressure, height, and weight, pain assessment and smoking history.
  • Assesses for allergies.
  • Records findings in the EHR.
  • Performs EKG, point of care testing, visual acuity, hearing exams, as directed by department, and oximetry.
  • Documents findings in EHR.
  • Prepares medical instruments for sterilization process and transfer to and from central sterilization area.
  • Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control and adheres to the Health Center’s infection control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains patient areas to provide for a safe, sanitary, and therapeutic environment.
  • Prepares and maintains examination and treatment rooms.
  • Ensures paper on exam tables are changed after each patient.
  • Visually inspects the room for any bio-hazard material, potential hazards (i.e., damp/wet floor, debris left in room, etc.).
  • Provides an inventory of supplies as needed.
  • Serves as patient advocate. Defend and preserve the rights of patients pertaining to all aspects of their care, knowledge and privacy.
  • Protects the confidentiality of medical records within scope of own responsibilities by preventing unauthorized release of information both verbally and/or in writing.
  • Demonstrates flexibility when responding to change.
  • Assumes accountability for all actions.
  • Contributes to orientation of new medical assistant personnel.
  • Responds appropriately to facility acuity and activity by providing assistance to peers, patients, and staff as needed.
  • Has knowledge of the use and operation of all office equipment, i.e., telephone system, fax, computer system, copy machine, etc.
  • Perform med reconciliation with patients and confirm pharmacy.
  • Serve as a preceptor to new hires.
