About The Position

The Pediatric Anesthesiologist provides services to patients undergoing surgery or diagnostic studies requiring sedation or anesthesia. This role involves consulting with surgeons and appropriate subspecialists, preparing and evaluating patients pre-anesthetic, monitoring inter-operative anesthesia, and providing post-anesthetic care. The position is responsible for life support, respiratory care, and other forms of physiologic support throughout the hospital when required. Additionally, the role provides pain management services for perioperative patients and consultations for pain management. The Pediatric Anesthesiologist also provides technical oversight and assistance to the relevant sedation team. The role is responsible for directing anesthesia and sedation services for patients throughout the hospital, ensuring the delivery of anesthesia services consistent with recognized standards, including patient consent, infection control, safety practices, and protocols for supportive life functions. This includes ensuring reporting and clinical documentation requirements are met, equipment requirements are fulfilled, and anesthesia equipment is monitored, inspected, and tested. The position is also responsible for ensuring complete pre-procedural and post-procedural anesthesia/sedation evaluations are performed within strict timelines, and for planning, directing, and supervising all activities for the anesthesia service for patients under their care. Ensuring the quality and appropriateness of anesthesia patient care, and participating in a planned program of quality assurance for the evaluation of anesthetic care delivered, are also key responsibilities. Any issues or identified problems must be resolved.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree in Medicine or Osteopathy
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support American Heart Association
  • Medical Physician Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Controlled Dangerous Substances Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
  • Documented continued competence in the specialty of anesthesiology in order to maintain clinical privilege.
  • Compliance with Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners requirements for CME.
  • Demonstration of competence in advanced life support.

Responsibilities

  • Directing anesthesia and sedation services for patients throughout the hospital.
  • Ensuring the delivery of anesthesia services consistent with recognized standards for anesthesia care including patient consent, infection control measures, safety practices in all anesthetizing areas, protocols for supportive life functions, etc.
  • Ensuring reporting and clinical documentation requirements are met.
  • Ensuring equipment requirements are fulfilled. Monitors, inspects, tests and maintains anesthesia equipment.
  • Ensuring that complete pre-procedural and post-procedural anesthesia/sedation evaluation is done in accordance with strict timelines.
  • Planning, directing and supervising all activities for the anesthesia service for patients under their care.
  • Ensuring the quality of appropriateness of anesthesia patient care.
  • Participating in a planned program of quality assurance for evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of the anesthetic care delivered.
  • Resolving any issues or identified problems.
